2026 May Malaysia Ecommerce Scene

Bot versus human traffic chart for Malaysia ecommerce May 2026

Was looking at the latest visitor tracker for Shopee and Lazada Malaysia, and the Shopee spike honestly caught us by surprise. We did expect them to grow in may, but not by this much.

Based on the data, Shopee MY is showing around +12.41% YoY growth, while Lazada MY is showing a sharp decline at around -48.82% YoY.

What makes this interesting is not just the growth, but what might be behind it.

It could be stronger campaigns, more browsing activity, better retention, or stronger buyer interest. But at the same time, we also have to consider another factor: traffic today is getting noisier.

With more AI tools, scrapers, price-monitoring bots, SEO crawlers, and automated tracking happening across websites, visitor numbers may not always represent real shoppers.

So while Shopee’s growth is definitely worth paying attention to, I think the next question is:

How much of this traffic is actual buying intent?

For e-commerce, traffic alone doesn’t tell the full story anymore. It needs to be checked together with conversion rate, add-to-cart, checkout rate, and actual sales.

Still, quite an interesting trend to watch.

Are others seeing similar traffic spikes in e-commerce lately?
